CT Police Dog Still In The Pound Two Years Later Because No One Will Take Her In

Flash is looking for a family. The dog is a mix of Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd and is trained as a police dog. Her journey began when she roamed the streets and ended up in the pound as a stray. When found, she was "very skinny and a mess," as described by Tom Mitchell, Harwinton's animal control officer. Despite her rough start, Mitchell noticed her intelligence and police dog temperament.

Flash underwent training for both narcotics detection and suspect apprehension. Initially destined to become a K9 officer in Texas, plans changed, and Flash found herself stuck at the pound for the past two years.

Mitchell has made it his "mission to find this amazing dog a home other than the pound." However, Flash comes with a few habits that might be deal-breakers for some. Flash is highly protective of her food around unfamiliar people. Although she likes other dogs, she can be overly reactive to them at times. While Flash is well-behaved around her handler, Mitchell notes, "if she doesn’t know you and you try to do something, she’s going to try and stop you."
